Here Is What We Did in 2001!

Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland- Swim For A Cure

My family and I participated in the Swim for a Cure last April. We raised almost $600 in sponsorships for swimming laps at a local pool. We received 4 free tickets to Six Flags, a tee shirt and a water bottle. Over all last year’s Cleveland area swim event involved over 3000 swimmers in 80 different locations and raised $350,000 to support local diabetes research, patient services, education and Camp Ho Mita Koda, the nations oldest camp for children with diabetes located east of Cleveland.

Camp Ho Mita Koda

I spent 4 days and 3 nights during the summer at a camp for kids with diabetes. Ho Mita Koda means "Welcome my friend" in the Sioux Indian language. Founded in 1929 by Dr. and Mrs. Henry J. John, Camp Ho Mita Koda is the oldest continuing camp for children with diabetes in the world. Camp Ho Mita Koda is located on 75 beautiful wooded acres in Newbury, Ohio, just 25 miles east of Cleveland in Geauga County. Red Cross swimming program, boating, canoeing, sailing and fishing. Arts and crafts, skits and music - from singing around the campfire to a talent show. Archery, tennis, team sports, hiking and nature study. Horseback riding is available nearby. Team challenge and ropes course, field trips and special events.

Juvenile Diabetes Foundation- Walk To Cure Diabetes

We went to the “Walk to Cure Diabetes.” A walkathon sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I  raised over $100 in sponsorships for walking at the Zoo. I received a tee shirt, lunch and a great day at the zoo. Last year there were over 5000 people at the Zoo raising over $725 thousand. This money helps the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fund diabetes research in developing a cure. It was a great day!
